See What They Spend in Hartford
Over the last 40 years, Connecticut's population grew about 18%. State government spending, however, increased 315% during the same time, adjusted for inflation.
Though Connecticut generated $19.5 billion in revenue from 378 sources in fiscal year 2011, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and the General Assembly implemented the largest tax increase in state history, expecting to raise an additional $1.9 billion in revenue from 77 new or increased taxes.
Understanding where the money goes is the first step toward improving fiscal discipline in Hartford.
